A Brief History of the University of Maryland
Maryland Agricultural College was to become the University of Maryland. It evolved into a major research university, adding academic programs and resources over the decades. The Morrill Land-Grant Act of 1862 brought heavy development to the university, and therefore helped make it to be designated as a land-grant institution, which would shape agriculture, science, and engineering at Maryland.
The campus has overcome several challenges, such as a major fire in 1912 and suffered financial difficulties in The Great Depression. But it had its hiccups, though the bumps and bruises never kept it down.
